Lhasa-Shigatse rail line is regarded as a big outreach program of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway – the world’s longest plateau rail. It was put into operation in January 2011, and finally completed on August, 2014. There are totally 14 stations on this trail. And the trains are allowed to travel at a speed of up to 120 kilometers per hour. In this way, the travel time between the two cities will be cut in half, with the journey time being about 3 hours.

Lhasa-Shigatse railway traverses on the world’s highest plateau at an elevation of 4,000 m. Many visitors has suffered from altitude sickness when taking a train within this region, so the coaches are installed with an oxygen diffusion system to relieve the discomfort caused by high altitude and ensure each passenger a smooth and pleasant trip.
